overview
Improving iOS Hotspot Sharing.
While iOS offers a seamless hotspot feature, it lacks contextual controls for users managing limited or prepaid data plans. This redesign explores how time-bound, secure hotspot sharing could reduce data anxiety, increase trust, and align iOS with real usage behaviors in the market.

the challenge
How might we redesign hotspot sharing on iOS to make it effortless, secure, and aligned with data-conscious behaviors?
In Mexico, mobile data is the primary internet access point for millions of users. According to INEGI, over 78% of internet users access the web mainly through smartphones, and prepaid or capped plans represent a significant share of subscriptions nationwide.
While iOS offers a seamless Personal Hotspot experience, it operates as an open-ended toggle. Once enabled, it exposes users to:
Uncontrolled data drain
Auto-reconnect from previously connected devices
Social friction when needing to disconnect

Oportunity
The opportunity was not to redesign connectivity, but to introduce control, visibility, and intentionality into an existing system behavior, aligning iOS with real usage patterns in the market.
